The Go Slow Collective brings together counselling, somatic education, and embodied practices including yoga. These FAQs offer a little more detail about the yoga and somatic elements of my work.
I am an Accredited Social Worker with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) having gained an BSW (Hons by Research) degree and I meet national standards for ongoing social work practice in Australia.
I also meet the standards of a Level 2 Yoga Teacher as set by Yoga Australia, the professional regulating body for yoga teachers in Australia. You can find me listed on the Yoga Australia website HERE.
No — you don’t need to attend yoga classes if you’re seeing me for counselling, and you don’t need to be in counselling to join a yoga class. Each offering stands on its own.
Some people find that embodied practices like yoga complement their therapeutic work, while others prefer to keep the two separate. Both choices are completely valid. You’re welcome to engage with whichever parts of The Go Slow Collective feel supportive for you.
If you’re curious about how the two might work together, we can explore that gently and at your pace — but there is never any expectation or requirement to do both.
Clothes that you feel comfortable to move and rest in.
If you are practicing online from the southern states warm layers and socks are great for keeping cosy whilst we rest, and in winter a hot water bottle can be extra nice if you feel the cold.
Restorative yoga is a practice of yoga where there is no doing, instead you are cradled, cushioned and supported by yoga props such as bolsters, blankets and cushions, (or home sourced alternatives) where you rest for up to 15 minutes. We are not seeking to stretch the body, instead we are pausing comfortably to rest and to cultivate conditions for the body’s parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest response) to come into dominance. It is this space of rest that the systems of our body require if they are to regulate and restore themselves and it is also where we can heal.
